PRESS RELEASE: Global leaders join new Allied For Startups Advisory Board at defining moment for startups
[Brussels, 22 July 2020, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org] Global leaders join the Allied for Startups Advisory Board at a defining moment for startups. The Advisory Board will guide the activities of Allied for Startups on a strategic level, raise awareness of critical issues, and function as a sounding board for new ideas and policy objectives for the organisation. It will provide expert analysis to better identify, advocate and influence the issues affecting digital startups. Announcing the Advisory Board, Allied For Startups CEO Melissa Blaustein said:
“We need new ideas and a diversity of perspectives to overcome the challenges and realise the opportunities of this defining moment for startups and I’m delighted to bring together a group of experts from the highest levels of industry and policy in our Advisory Board to do just that.”
The majority female Advisory Board draws together leading policymakers, founders and investors from Europe, Africa and America, bringing welcome diversity to guide the policy conversation to help startups.
The Board’s number one priority will be to ensure that startups get the support they need to survive the crisis. First on the list to do so will be ensuring that outdated rules like those governing state aid for companies, which often favour large incumbents, do not continue to hinder access to vital aid for startups in the wake of COVID-19.
“Startups will be the champions and unicorns that drive our economic recovery from this crisis, and the innovators that will make our society more resilient going forward.” said Blaustein.
Members of the Advisory Board are:
- Robert Madelin, Former Director General, DG Connect, European Commission
- Eva Kaili, Member of European Parliament
- Kat Borlongan, Head, La French Tech
- Marie Ekeland, Founder Daphni Fund and 2030 Fund
- Frances Burwell, Distinguished Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council
- Kathryn Brown, Former President, Internet Society
- Mathew Tsamenyi, Executive Director, China European International Business School, Ghana
