On 24 June 2025, our Startup Policy Officer, Kalle Fahlvik, represented Allied For Startups at the European Commission’s Research & Innovation Days.
In his opening remarks, Kalle addressed some of the key challenges and opportunities facing startups in the EU, including:
• The EU’s ambition to become the world’s leading economy,
• The impact of fragmentation between Member States,
• Europe’s strong foundations in research and talent, and its innovation capacity.
He emphasised the need for urgent action to boost Europe’s competitiveness, starting with the implementation of the EU Startup and Scale-up Strategy and other innovation-friendly policy proposals.
Following his speech, Kalle joined a panel discussion alongside: Kat Borlongan (EIC – European Innovation Council), Craig Johnston (ENOUGH), Gaetane Suzenet (European WaterTech Accelerator), and Maija Itkonen (Onego Bio). They explored how the EU can further empower green startups and scale-ups to deliver climate solutions and drive sustainable growth.
