Allied For Startups Meets with EVP Henna Virkkunen in Lisbon
On 12 November in Lisbon, Allied For Startups, the Dutch Startup Association, and Startup Portugal met with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen, responsible for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, to discuss Europe’s competitiveness and sovereignty.
Europe was built on interdependence, not isolation. To remain competitive, it must stay open while strengthening its capacity to act and compete globally. Yet fragmentation, administrative complexity, and 27 different legal systems remain self-imposed barriers preventing startups from scaling across the Single Market.
That’s why a competitive and autonomous Europe through a 28th regime regulation is needed, offering a concrete opportunity to unlock the full potential of the Single Market and ensure startups can start, scale, and stay in Europe.
Speaking earlier on Web Summit’s main stage, EVP Virkkunen captured this ambition: “It means that a company that is operating in Europe could operate under one regulation in all the Member States.”
Thank you, EVP Virkkunen, for engaging with us and allowing room for new insights in what is already a complex project. We are confident it can be done – and welcome your leadership in driving it forward.
