Industry Joint Statement Calling For Simplification of the EU GPAI Code of Practice
Allied For Startups, alongside leading industry associations across Europe, signed a joint industry statement calling for a simplified, innovation-friendly EU Code of Practice for General Purpose AI (GPAI) models.
The European Commission’s AI Continent Action Plan sets out an ambitious vision to advance AI across the EU, with its key pillar being regulatory simplification – a move we fully support as essential to drive innovation and global competitiveness.
However, the current draft of the Code includes requirements that are overly complex and go beyond the scope of the AI Act – creating legal uncertainty and placing unnecessary burdens on developers, especially startups.
- To be effective and truly support Europe’s AI ambitions, the final Code must:
- Prioritise innovation, clarity, workability and simplification
- Avoid legal uncertainty and unnecessary burdens on innovators
- Be aligned with the AI Act and the needs of innovators across the value chain
- Provides practical guidance for startups building and deploying GPAI models
We urge policymakers to simplify the final Code and adopt a more innovation-friendly approach. Startups are ready to lead Europe’s AI transformation – but they need smart, supportive regulation to do so.
