Industry Letter in Support of the Immediate Adoption of the European Cybersecurity Certification Scheme for Cloud Services (EUCS)

Allied for Startups, alognside 22 other European business associations, have sent out an open letter urging Commissioner Henna Virkkunen to accelerate the adoption of the EU Certification Scheme for Cloud Services (EUCS). This initiative is a critical step toward strengthening Europe’s digital infrastructure and ensuring a competitive, secure, and innovation-friendly cloud ecosystem.

Why the EUCS Matters:

• A Unified Digital Market – The EUCS will establish consistent cybersecurity standards across the EU, fostering a true Digital Single Market for cloud services.
• Simplified Compliance – By aligning with key EU regulations such as NIS2, DORA, and CRA, the EUCS will reduce compliance burdens for businesses relying on cloud solutions.
• Empowering European Innovation – A trusted certification framework will benefit startups, SaaS providers, and scale-ups, especially in sectors like finance, healthcare, and business services, enabling them to grow and compete globally.

The current EUCS draft prioritises strong security while avoiding unnecessary duplication of existing regulations, such as GDPR and the Data Act. This approach ensures clear compliance pathways without adding complexity to the regulatory landscape.
