Joint Industry Statement on the Digital Fairness Act
Allied for Startups has joined a coalition of industry associations in signing a joint statement on the proposed Digital Fairness Act, calling for a competitiveness-driven and evidence-based approach to regulation.
In the statement, we urge the European Commission and co-legislators to:
-
Focus on enforcing existing consumer protection rules rather than layering on new ones;
-
Avoid regulatory overlap and complexity that could hinder innovation and legal clarity;
-
Conduct impact assessments to ensure new measures are targeted and justified.
The statement highlights that many areas – such as dark patterns, personalisation, addictive design, subscriptions, and influencer marketing – are already well-covered by EU laws like the UCPD, DSA, GDPR, and others.
As the EU shifts toward prioritising competitiveness and simplification, we emphasise the importance of clear, workable guidance over duplicative rules.
AFS stands with other signatories in supporting a balanced digital policy framework that promotes innovation while protecting consumers.
